Since its opening in 2018, Marché Fermier Pitre has been much more than a place to shop: it’s a showcase for the craftsmanship of producers from the Upper Laurentians and across Quebec. Born from the desire to make strawberries grown by Les Entreprises Pitre on nearby lands accessible, the market quickly expanded to offer a variety of products, all selected for their quality and authenticity.
Fruits and Vegetables
Our fruits and vegetables section changes with the seasons to bring you fresh, high-quality products.
In summer, it’s abundance: crisp vegetables, juicy fruits, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries from Les Entreprises Pitre — plus a multitude of local flavors.

Berries All Year Round
Moving Toward Self-Sufficiency, One Step at a Time
To offer strawberries in both summer and winter, we began greenhouse production in 2025 during the expansion of Le Marché Fermier Pitre. Thanks to an artificial lighting system that complements Quebec’s winter sunlight, our plants grow under optimal conditions to produce flavorful berries even in the heart of winter. For this crop, we’ve adopted an innovative and responsible approach: prioritizing biological pest control, using bumblebees for pollination, and introducing predatory insects to manage harmful pests.
Our strawberries will mainly be available at Le Marché Fermier Pitre, with the possibility of distribution to other local points of sale depending on production.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is Le Marché Fermier Pitre open year-round?
Yes. Since 2025, Le Marché Fermier Pitre has been open all year thanks to major expansion work and the installation of modern greenhouses. These facilities allow us to grow strawberries even in winter, offering plenty of fresh, local products in every season.
What payment methods are accepted at Le Marché Fermier Pitre?
We accept credit cards, cash, and debit payments. We also offer gift certificates — the perfect way to treat your loved ones. It’s the ideal gift for any occasion!
Are the greenhouse strawberries grown at Le Marché Fermier Pitre organic?
Meeting organic standards for winter greenhouse strawberry production is extremely challenging from an agronomic perspective. That said, we always prioritize a biological approach to managing pests and diseases.
We introduce a wide range of beneficial organisms into the greenhouse, including predatory mites, insects, and parasitoids (Neoseiulus cucumeris, Phytoseiulus persimilis, Orius insidiosus, Stratiolaelaps scimitus, and Encarsia formosa). These beneficial species colonize the plants and provide effective pest control, minimizing the need for insecticide treatments.
To prevent plant diseases, we adjust climate conditions, add root biostimulants, and apply biological control agents to the leaves. These measures greatly reduce disease development and help us grow strong, resilient plants. If intervention becomes necessary, we always favor the use of biopesticides. Creating a living, dynamic ecosystem inside the greenhouse remains our top priority.
