PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Reporting to the Human Resources, Health, Safety, and Communications Department, as an OHS Specialist, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and establishing health, safety, and hygiene policies and programs on the farm, as well as conducting safety rounds and internal audits. This is a critical role in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, as well as ensuring compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations in the agriculture and food sector.

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH, SAFETY, AND WELL-BEING | You play a key role in risk management and prevention within the organization. You implement control measures and assist in the development of guidelines and policies to ensure compliance with best practices.

REGULATORY AND COMPLIANCE SECTOR | You ensure that the organization’s practices comply with applicable laws and keep your files and records up to date so that you are always prepared for an audit or inspection.

TRAINING AND AWARENESS | You make it your duty to inform the organization’s members about best practices in occupational health, safety, and hygiene. You also do not hesitate to train teams. You recommend the implementation of innovative practices and contribute to optimizing our current practices.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

TRAINING, DEVELOPMENT, COORDINATION, AND AWARENESS RAISING

  • Develop and implement OHS tools, policies, and procedures (communications, signage, procedures, templates), ensuring they are kept up to date and accessible (OHS manual / OHS library);
  • Implement the annual action plan developed jointly with the HR, OHS, and Communications Department and monitor its progress;
  • Support management in achieving agricultural practices that provide a world-class OHS environment;
  • Establish relationships with regulatory bodies and external partners to stay informed of best practices;
  • Work collaboratively with all stakeholders (production, maintenance, human resources, employees) to identify and eliminate risks of workplace accidents and occupational illnesses;
  • Create detailed guidelines tailored to the specific needs of the farm;
  • Analyze training needs, develop the annual plan, coordinate training sessions, and ensure traceability (matrix, attendance, competencies). Deliver strategic/mandatory training as required;
  • Manage disability claims and handle the administrative follow-up of claims with the CNESST (documentation, communications, deadlines);
  • Establish and coordinate OHS committees, first-aid activities, emergency plans, and evacuation drills;
  • Help monitor OHS indicators, analyze the results, and recommend improvements.
  • Promote a proactive health and safety culture within the teams;

IDENTIFY, ASSESS, INSPECT, AND IMPLEMENT MEASURES

  • Define and maintain the hazard identification process (tools, frequency, criteria), analyze trends, and prioritize actions;
  • Establish the inspection program while ensuring the quality of reports and the implementation of actions;
  • Take immediate corrective measures to prevent accidents;
  • Assess and analyze the risks associated with each task or activity in agricultural operations;
  • Conduct risk assessments and health and safety audits directly on-site;
  • Provide recommendations on mitigation measures to be implemented based on their severity and likelihood;
  • Manage all workplace accident files (reports, documentation, follow-ups, timelines) with the CNESST;
  • Serve as a point of contact during CNESST visits, inspections, or investigations;
  • Prepare the organization for CNESST inspections and accompany inspectors in the field;
  • Follow up on correction notices, recommendations, or findings, including implementing corrective measures and drafting proofs of compliance;
  • Collaborate with management in analyzing accidents, identifying root causes, and preventing recurrence;
  • Maintain up-to-date files, records, and documents required by the CNESST;
  • Respond to health, safety, and sanitation incidents and accidents by conducting thorough investigations to determine their causes;
  • Evaluate current agricultural practices and ensure they comply with CanadaGAP standards regarding crop handling, cultivation methods, the use of plant protection products, etc.;
  • Inspect facilities to ensure they meet hygiene, cleanliness, and safety requirements;
  • Establish critical control points and critical limits that must be met to ensure food safety (HACCP).

  • Fluency in French and basic knowledge of Spanish to ensure effective communication with Spanish-speaking foreign workers and, as needed, with external partners;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Outlook, Teams, etc.).

At the heart of our agricultural operations, the use of reliable equipment is essential. As a mechanic, your mission is to ensure the adherence to the preventive maintenance schedule and to respond promptly to repair equipment in case of urgent need. We rely on you to ensure the functionality and compliance of rolling equipment, including trucks, tractors, trailers, and much more, to optimize the flow of our harvests. Your expertise and vigilance are crucial to ensuring the continued success of our agricultural operations.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow the preventive maintenance schedule for all mechanical equipment provided by the Production Department;
  • Conduct regular inspections to detect signs of deterioration or malfunction;
  • Perform repairs indicated in safety rounds and document them;
  • Complete biannual pre-inspection forms and schedule mechanical inspection appointments for heavy trucks and buses with the SAAQ;
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns or unexpected failures of equipment;
  • Diagnose problems and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime;
  • Ensure regular maintenance of trucks, tractors, trailers, and other agricultural equipment;
  • Replace defective or worn parts and make necessary adjustments;
  • Perform welding work to repair or reinforce equipment structures;
  • Participate in the manufacturing or modification of equipment to meet specific operational needs;
  • Maintain an inventory of spare parts and supplies required for maintenance;
  • Work closely with agricultural teams to understand their equipment needs;

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Vocational diploma in heavy equipment mechanics, heavy vehicle mechanics, or other related training;
  • Proven hands-on experience in equipment maintenance and repair for at least 5 years;
  • Understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems. Ability to read technical diagrams, repair manuals, or technical documents;
  • Proficiency in MIG and arc welding techniques;
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 1) – An asset;
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 5) – Required;
  • Provide a basic tool kit for mechanics – Required.

What do you do in winter?

We dedicate this period to carrying out new projects, growing greenhouse strawberries at Marché Fermier Pitre, recruiting, and preparing machinery, housing, and equipment for the busy season.

Although most of our fruit production takes place from June to October, we work year-round to ensure we are ready for this critical period! We also love to diversify our activities: we are involved in plant production, as well as the distribution and processing of berries.

What are your recruitment periods?

We recruit year-round based on the group’s needs to support our growth. However, spring is the main hiring period for local workers as the production season approaches. In winter, we begin recruiting foreign workers, as this process takes several months.
